One flow, three steps

From the inbox to the right folder.

  1. Import

    Pick PDFs, drag them from the Finder into the window, or let FileSherpa watch an inbox folder such as Downloads. Adding files does not change your originals.

  2. Review

    FileSherpa reads the text locally, using macOS text recognition for scans. From that it derives a file name and a folder based on how you already file things. You see the reason and change whatever does not fit.

  3. File

    Only your approval files the document. A copy is the default; moving needs the folder’s permission. Existing files are never overwritten, and the filing history can undo each filing as long as the files are unchanged.

What FileSherpa does today

  • Pick PDFs, drag them from the Finder, or watch inbox folders.
  • Read text locally, using macOS text recognition for scans.
  • Suggest names and folders based on your existing filing, with a visible reason.
  • Change everything before filing: name, target folder, copy or move.
  • Never overwrite, and undo from the filing history as long as the files are unchanged.

Deliberately careful

  • Suggestions are not always right. Senders that appear for the first time are still unknown to FileSherpa – that is why you review every suggestion.
  • Filing without asking is off by default and still being tested. A dry run shows beforehand what would happen.
  • Gmail as an inbox source and AI suggestions via Codex are optional and experimental. Filing works locally without either.
  • Long-term testing with network drives and cloud folders is still under way.

Start with a copy.

For your first try, keep the original and file only a copy. That way you can see calmly how well the suggestions fit the way you file.
